THE DIAGNOSIS – The “incorrect bite”

The complaints often have the same cause: The patients have an “incorrect bite.” This means that the upper and lower jaws do not meet correctly.

Headaches, teeth grinding, jaw clicking, ear noises, tinnitus, and even symptoms extending beyond the head can all originate in the jaw.

The “incorrect bite” leads to an unphysiological load on the temporomandibular joint. The upper and lower jaws meet in a position that is unfavorable for the function of the temporomandibular joint (ACTUAL position). To uncover this functional disorder, the bite is objectively and reproducibly measured, and the optimal bite position (TARGET position) is determined.

Because: Even a misalignment of a few tenths of a millimeter can lead to pain in completely different regions of the body.

THE TRIGGERS

There are a variety of possible causes for a misalignment of the bite:

  • An untreated malocclusion,
  • fillings, crowns, bridges, or dentures that are too high or too low,
  • altered tooth contacts due to abrasion, caused by stress and teeth grinding, or
  • altered tooth contacts due to the loss of individual or multiple teeth, the gaps of which have not been closed.

There are many other triggers for CMD. These include, for example

  • Malpositions after accidents or injuries
  • Spinal curvatures,
  • Stress, psychological stress, trauma, or
  • Bruxism, i.e., pressing, biting, or grinding your teeth.

THE SYMPTOMS

The most common symptoms that indicate an “incorrect bite” include:

  • Teeth grinding and lip biting
  • Tension pain in the jaw and facial area
  • Neck, shoulder, and back pain
  • Pelvic obliquity and pelvic torsion
  • Tension headaches and migraines
  • Ear pain and ringing in the ears (tinnitus)

If you suffer from the symptoms described, a special examination by the dentist makes sense to ensure whether the complaints originate from your chewing or jaw apparatus.

However, the so-called functional analytical services are not part of the catalog of services of the statutory health insurance companies. But for every patient, they are in
